Abstract:
I will review the issues for attaining high luminosity at hadron colliders. I will discuss and illustrate some innovative beam manipulation methods developed and implemented at the Fermilab accelerators. These have contributed to the recent spectacular collider performance at the Tevatron Run II. Some of the most interesting techniques include longitudinal momentum mining of stored beam, longitudinal phase-space painting, fast bunch compression and barrier bunch coalescing. These techniques can also be applied at other accelerator facilities for improved performances.
