Abstract:
Improvements in Momentum Mining for Tevatron Shots: I propose to use nine softer mini-buckets (with a barrer spacing of 189 ns in every mini-bucket) during momentum mining instead of currently used hard mini-buckets (with zero barrer spacing). Beam studies and simulations suggest that with the proposed softer buckets the available bucket area is about 8.48 eVs (instead of 8.55 eVs for hard mini-buckets), rms energy spread will be reduced by >18% and peak density will be reduced by ~ a factor of two. This may be favourable to control instability increase lifetime, cool better during mining, and better emittance beam to Tevatron.
