Abstract:
As the Director has stated, one possible consequence of the current budget situation will be a one month furlough of all non-essential Fermilab personnel during the month of July, 2007. We examine the ramifications of such a furlough with regard to the Neutron Therapy Facility (NTF). We consider the impact that shutting down the facility would have on patient treatment, as well as the cost of running the facility through the month in a standalone mode. We conclude that the latter would cost the lab on the order of $100K, assuming there were no major Linac problems and that the NTF staff themselves would continue to be paid by Northern Illinois University.
