Abstract:
We will hold the second technical meeting on the feasibility of mounting a next-generation muon g-2 experiment at FNAL. The motivation is toward a five-fold improvement in the muon anomaly, which is already in disagreement with the standard model by more than three standard deviations. Later in the afternoon, Prof. Lee Roberts will give a Colloquium on the physics of a new g-2 experiment. In many ways, the FNAL accelerator complex has the ideal suite of features to deliver intense bunches of muons to the experiment, which will re-use the existing BNL superconducting storage ring. The aim of this meeting will be to focus on the several critical accelerator complex issues that are central to the core plan, including the proton source, Booster 15-Hz upgrade, bunching and extraction in the Recycler, various key transfer lines, cryogenics support, and important civil construction issues. Compatibility with the new Mu2e experiment will also be discussed. The idea will be to establish a credible work and cost analysis, which has been requested by the Director. All interested parties are strongly encouraged to attend.
