Abstract:
An investigation of MI horizontal flying wire profile noise lead to the discovery of 8-GeV pbar instability. The asynchronous betatron oscillation developed soon after injection from Recycler into Main injector. By the time flying wire flew the PMT signal was heavily modulated by the oscillations. A minus 6 unit of chromaticity change was found to be enough to stabilize the bunches.
