Abstract:
The LHC development strategy calls for a major upgrade of the collider around 2020 to increase its luminosity by a factor of 10 beyond the design value. The new machine configuration, called the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), will rely on a number of key innovative technologies. This talk will review the HL-LHC performance scenarios from the point of view of beam dynamics, and concentrate on the effects of beam-beam interactions. A novel collision scheme proposed recently to achieve the HL-LHC goals will be presented.
* The work was performed within the framework of the European HiLumi LHC Design Study, and was partially supported by US LARP.
