Abstract:
The protons needed for the US High Energy Physics experimental program will be accelerated by the existing, now 40-year-old, Fermilab Linac and Booster for the foreseeable future. The Proton Improvement Plan (PIP) isa laboratory effort to to increase beam throughput from the Proton Source while maintaining availability and acceptable residual activation. The plan comprises hardware modifications to increase repetition rate and reduce beam loss while ensuring viable operation of the proton source through 2025. PIP was officially started in 2012 and
has made significant progress on many fronts. This talk will highlight PIP progress, present efforts, and describe the management structure. Upcoming talks will cover particular topics in greater detail.
