Abstract:
After the Higgs boson discovery at LHC, the international physics community is considering the next energy frontier collider. A pp circular collider of 100 km with a center of mass energy of about 100 TeV is believed to havethe necessary discovery potential. Following the recommendations of the Council on European Strategy for Particle Physics, CERN has launched a 5 years international design study for such a Future Circular Collider (FCC) with the goal of examining its feasibility and costs. The same tunnel could first host a e+e- collider with beam energy ranging from 45 to 175 GeV for a variety of physics programs. The FCC 2014 kick-off meeting in Geneva has been followed by a ICFA workshop on e+e- circular colliders-Higgs factory and by the FCC week in March 2015 in Washington. In my talk I will highlight some of the key aspects and challenges of the CERN lead effort towards a FCC.
