Abstract:
This is NuMI Note B-610 (in PS form at "http://www-numi.fnal.gov/numinotes/public/ps/numi0610/numi0610.ps.gz"), but in PDF form. It is dated April 10, 2000. The Hadronic Hose was a magnetic focusing device which was proposed for installation in the decay pipe of the NuMI neutrino beam line. The primary motivation was to reduce the differences in the shape of the neutrino spectra at the MINOS far and near detectors. The reduction in near/far differences would have reduced the systematic uncertainties in neutrino oscillation measurements. Other benefits of the Hadronic Hose would have been to increase the neutrino flux and to modestly loosen focusing horn tolerances.
