Abstract:
The snap coalescing procedure has been shown to become inefficient at total beam intensities greater than 2E12 protons distributed in 12 Booster hatches. Here the controlled momentum reduction during the first rotation, necessary for high coalescing efficiency, is absent due to the large transient beam loading voltages. A method to circumvent this problem is presented and the basic compensation technique has been demonstrated with beam in the Main Ring.
