Notes from Main Injector/Recycler Group Meeting Wednesday, 11 September 2002 Bruce C. Brown Introduction: Peter Wilson from CDF has joined the Recycler Ring Recuperation effort. He will be "our" contact to the BD support groups for all Instrumentation upgrade issues. [Operational issues will continue to be managed as they have been]. Shekhar: Some Emittance Plots Plots from elsewhere in the division were shown. Histograms of transverse emittance of pbars in various Fermilab rings for shots both before and after the Accumulator Shot lattice introduction. In both cases, an emittance growth of x2 - x3 from MI to Tevatron were reported. Warren Schappert (RFI): Beam Position Electronic Developments Results from using Echotek Digital Receiver cards to record signals from the strip line which we will dedicate to the Beam Line Tuner were shown. This is a preliminary look using a local interface, data acquisition and analysis. Data are recorded with 14-bit sampling at 53 MHz. Digital filtering is used to find peaks for the 2.5 MHz bunches. Results were shown for 4 channels - Horiz A&B, Vertical A&B. The Vertical A channel showed anomalous results for the first 10's of turns. The position (A-B/A+B) looked very reasonable for horizontal and had reasonable result for the vertical except for that which was due to the Channel A anomaly. Tune spectra were created using FFT for both and the results were reasonable. Coasting beam with a barrier bucket was recorded and the signal from the barrier buckets was observed [no detailed analysis done on it.] The to-do list includes completing an ACNET interface which will ship data to an existing program which Guan Wu will modify and capture of raw data from PBAR injections. Need to schedule data capture in next couple of days. ACNET interface will also be complete in next week or so. Dan Broemmelsiek [RR Machine Coordinator]: Study Plans Plus.... -Chandra Bhat will be doing RF Studies -Cons will tun up transfer line -Proton Studies including heating rate, stacking, longitudinal emittance growth issues, TBT Lattice measurements. -We will practice Pbar transfers from the bottom of the stack with the goal of making them routine. -BLT measurements, development, and calibration. We also need to add Recycler Shot SDA definitions including settings for correctors in the beamlines. Major work is planned for/with R6 to provide improved RF operation. These will require many changes including likely BPM timing changes. Goal include reduction of DC beam creation during transfers and re-bunching at 2.5 MHz of beam stored in barrier buckets. These well be developed using protons with the goal of applying them to pbars. Shekhar: WWW developments. A new person will be identified soon to assist in maintenance of MI/RR web pages. The www-recycler.fnal.gov page will be resuscitated and added to in lieu of the many RR links on the MI page (www-fmi.fnal.gov). Shekhar will continue to update them on the MI page until help arrives. Information for display on these pages is/will be solicited from all of us. Upgrade Instrumentation and Software: A list of proposed instrumentation and/or software upgrades for the RRR (Jan 03 time frame) are needed by Friday. Requirements and scope documents required by next Wednesday.
