Rumors and Reports
John Marriner reported that the Schottke system vacuum tests are
proceeding. A yellow-ish oil was found in the vertical system (on the
metal which holds the ferrite and inside the can). There was less oil
observed on the horizontal system. The horizontal system has been
baked and shows good vacuum. The vertical system is still pumping.
An analysis of the oil has been requested.
Krish Gounder -- Studies with PBar Stores in RR
Slides from this presentation were prepared in a variety of ways so
an electronic version will not be available immediately. Some of the
issues covered included
- Instability -- beam loss which is consistent with being caused
by a beam instability has been seen. For example, a sudden loss
occurred during the TeV Shot Setup (150 Gev ramping) on 12/30/02.
Some emittance changes were seen. Some events have included
repeated losses in a number of steps. Speculation centered on longitudinal
cooling system but no conclusions have been reached.
- John Marriner has added a primitive tune output from the VSA
program. R:TUNEH and R:TUNEV are the new parameters. Need to check
if they are being datalogged. [Datalogged on .gpj per S. Pruss, 13Jan03].
- In the last day we have had about 12 hours with no changes
during which we observed a lifetime of 163 hours in the Recycler.
- Important question which we need to work on: Do we have
real emittance growth when we compress from 400 or so buckets to
100 or so buckets for the PBars in the Recycler?
- (Marriner) We should be concerned that only 30% of beam from Accumulator
is reaching the Recycler during recent studies.
