In attendance were: Henryk Piekarz, Doug Moehs, Milorad Popovic, Bill Foster, Giorgio Apollinari, and Chuck Schmidt. 1. Henryk presented a summary of the Proton Ion Source milestones starting from achieving vacuum in the Column Assembly, July 18, 2005 and proceeding to present time. An expectation of February 2006 is given for Source tests. His repot is in the attachments. 2. Doug followed with a statement of work on an interim H- source (the Fermilab-BNL magnetron H- source). A Fermilab source has begun conversion to the BNL source by dimpling the cathode and trying to operate it in the Linac source test bench. This is the first use of the test bench in about a year in which it has been given a good cleaning. The system is beginning to come up well and an arc has been established in the source. A modulated supply to give a long arc and beam pulse (~1 ms) are under consideration. EE support may have some suitable IGBT devices they are working on to do this with only the addition of a capacitor and modest DC power supply we may have. Doug is well into arranging a trip to BNL in February to get a better look and understanding of the BNL source. Plans are also being made to visit DESY early in the year to do a good test of a long (1-3 ms) rf pulse on their volume source. 3. Milorad then present his suggestion for the transport from the source to the RFQ. His report is attached. He is proposing a single solenoid that can be tuned electrically and moved longitudinally to match the beam in size and angle into the RFQ as was done in the PET project. We still have the PET solenoid at Fermilab (which is a strong large bore solenoid) which could be used for this idea. It would incorporate an x-y steering element before and after the solenoid to correct the beam in position and angle into the RFQ. He further suggests two such assemblies with vacuum valves that could slide transversally for quickly changing sources. This lead to some discussion of the difficulties to do such a transverse movement and any effect cesium may have on the RFQ from the shortened distance. The meeting lasted about 1.5 hours.
