From: owner-pd-meson-planning@listserv.fnal.gov on behalf of Bob Webber [webber@fnal.gov] Sent: Friday, January 05, 2007 4:55 PM To: PD-Meson-planning@fnal.gov Subject: Minutes of January 4, 2007 meeting Planned agenda: Agenda: 1) Modulator status and schedule update (C. Jensen) 2) Safety items (M. Andrews, G. Federwitz) 3) Coax RF transmission system to cavity cave installation update (T. Anderson) 4) RF Cage status report (T. Anderson) 5) RF signal and monitoring cable status and plans (J. Steimel) 6) Controls status update (P. Lucas, S. Lackey, D. Nicklaus, P. Prieto, D. McDowell, M. Kucera, et al.) 7) Misc issues (Bob W.) 8) AOB Chris was not present, but emailed following status report: ----Status: Howie looked over the modulator week before Christmas and had some changes to make. All the physical changes are done. Howie has asked Cezary Jach to look into the 480 V distribution to make sure there is breaker and fuse coordination (appropriate overload ratings). I made up the last of the interlocks last week. Need to reprogram the controls to be able to work with RF enable / modulator enable from Peter Prieto. There was a race condition on our end. Also updated various trips after confering with Howie. Will ask Mike Andrew to schedule walk through for Tues or Wed nest week. Hopefully begin interlock checkout Wednesday next week. Power testing soon thereafter (still at LEAST a couple of weeks before klystron testing) ---- Mike Andrews not present, but left voice mail that he will support Chris' safety walkthrough next week. Mike requested that modulator LOTO procedure be ready by that time. Webber suggest setting, perhaps by January 12, a target date for start of RF commissioning. This will provide suggested date to Toshiba personnel when they should plan to be present for witnessing this activity. At this point it seems this date will be no earlier than Feb. 1. There is strong motivation to reach this point before Feb 13. Peter Prieto will be in Japan for several weeks beginning that date. Maurice: - raised supply pressure to 'nominal' on 1/4, need response to Chris whether this solves his pressure interlock problems - Meson LCW skid tripped once over holidays with no explanation....investigation will continue, it may trip again - air supply for klystron output window is yet to be connected; Maurice has flow monitor to install also - reminded by Al that he is to supply air pressure including regulator and pressure interlock switch for 3" coax lines to cave Glenn Federwitz - modulator/charging supply not yet connected to personnel safety interlock system; not believed to be required for initial modulator testing - the "temporary" charging supply will need to be tied to interlock system prior to RF commissioning - will soon install two interlocked RF detectors in RF component test cage Terry - by end of next week 3" coax up to and including coax switch should be fully installed - Bob Gloor will replace Steve Wesseln as our drafting support person THANKS STEVE!!! - modified strike bar for cage door is being made; conductive foam will soon be installed; foam will be used as sweep on bottom of cage door - parts for RT cavity test cave stand are in procurement - RT cavity tests in cave will use 'scrounged' vacuum equipment Jim Steimel - working on RF cabling design/drawing showing all RF monitor and interlock cables and signal levels - identifying RF level trip points (forward power to cage, reverse power at klystron output, reverse power from circulator, etc.) with input from Moretti, Wildman et al. Peter P. - interlock status visible through control system - ADCs working - Dennis Nicklaus now controlling RF generator through control system [Webber proposed demonstration of frequency lock feedback via the control system; Dennis said to expect no more than 1 Hz update rate; Webber will try to provide necessary cavity simulator.] - Peter advised to include doors on backs of Meson relay racks and inter-rack sides. - Discussion came up on interlock for high power circulator temp/bias system. Al, Peter, and Jim were asked to study the situation and make a proposal. Mike Kucera - needs another fiber transceiver for Ion Source; will generate requisition Henryk - investigated source sparking - cleaned scale found floating around the source and verified integrity of source insulating glass - installed new turbo and fore pumps on his ion source set-up - one pair of steering magnets were installed in LEBT - found suitable flow measuring device to monitor the small flows of H2 to the source; getting prices - source filament now lit and expect to try beam again next week - expect long pulse arc modulator supply next week from Steve Hays Leon - cave gate now complete - suggested talking with Bill Shull, FESS/OPS, about emergency actions in event of Meson long term power failure in freezing conditions; Webber will do this Chuck Schmidt - will soon begin planning with Henryk et al. for equipment layout in Meson ion source area so we can determine fencing layout Bruce Hanna - next week will show sketches of 2.5MeV beam absorber proposal Bob Webber mailto:webber@fnal.gov phone (630)840-5415 pager (630)722-0085
