Dixon" , Michael Syphers , vs , Alexander Valishev , James T Volk , Shavkat Singatulan 1. Bob Zwaska informed of recent absorbtion of Proton Plan II into the NoVA project - as two L2 projects (led by Nancy Grossmann); he leads L3 "Beam Physics"; bigger project means more reviews; they still plan to do the 1st round of installs in Oct'09 (see doc-2610). 2. Nikolai Kazarinov reported the latest Booster SC MAD simulation results: dQ_SC=-0.3(V), -0.1 (H), taking into account RF voltage ramp and ~adiabatic bunching he (together with Yuri and Sasha D.) observed ~2% particle loss and ~15% emittance increase at 2.5e12 and 4% and 100% emittance increase for 5e12 protons (total). Seems that dynamic aperture is limited by magnet nonlinearities and gradient errors, while SC helps to increase it (from 1-3 sigma to 4-5). Q: why does SC help DA? A: it moves the WP beyond parameteric resonance 2Q=13 (and does it fast), so less particles are lost. (doc-2609) 3. GL reports: a) Yuri - new bbcompensation results(below), new cogging for the Tev ramp was proposed (and successfully tested today), Eliana found a better solution for muon collider IR with smaller chromatic aberrations ; b) Tanaji - a fix was found for the FNAL-built LHC IR quads, will be executed soon, does not affect the LHC overall schedule (e.g. sector 8 is cooled off already); c) Bob W - Mar. 15 is set as a target date for the 1st RF in MDB, followed by ~3 weeks of commissioning; an RFQ should be delivered by the end of Summer'07, a simple p-source is built by H.Piekarz and able to deliver 60 usec puls; d) Mike C - 1st NML cryomodule (built at FNAL of DESY parts) to be installed in July (schedule may slip); people are working on phase jitter reqs (Philippe); Alex Valishev and Jim Volk are abroad on the ILC business (linac beam dynamics, cryomodule alignement). 3. Dave Johnson presented his designs of the MI-8 line modification to inject protons into Recycler, and extraction line RR-->MI; he also has finished a draft of the design for a transport line from a proposed 8 GeV SCRF linac to the Main Injector (doc-2597); he is involved in MOU with BNL under which a 1ft long Laser Wire profile monitor is being built, will be tested at BNL on 750 KeV beam and delivered to the MBD (doc-2608). 4. Vladimir announced successful compensation of beam-beam effects on protons with use of TEL2 - the lens acted on a single bunch and doubled its lifetime at the beginning of HEP stores (consistently, in several stores). They still don't know why the improvement is so big. Improvement of the proton lifetime lasts for almost 10 hours. Plan to figure out how much of operational gain it can bring. He reported a strange self-healing of HV Marx generator IGBTs damaged by radiation in the Tev tunnel after a month or so of cooling off . (doc-2606).
