Minutes/Action items of "Systems-Instrumentation-SDA" monthly meeting March 14, 2007 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Present: T. Bolshakov, D. Capista, K. Gollwitzer, M. Hu, E. McCrory, T. Meyer, R. Moore, V. Papadimitriou, J. Patrick, S. Pruss, R. Thurman-Keup, D. Slimmer, J. Zagel We discussed the following: -------------------------- 1) Pbar transfer line BPMs Keith Gollwitzer/Jim Patrick 2) Status and performance of the Flying Wires and A0 loss monitor test Jim Zagel 3) Recent History of pbar MI 8 GeV emittances Vaia Papadimitriou 4) Status and performance of the SBD and the Synch Lite systems and BLM commissioning Randy Keup 5) Need for a BPM Viewer for MI and Tevatron and transfer line BPMs All --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the basis of the discussion we had at the meeting the following action items came up: 1) Recently operations had to locally reboot frequently the "rapid transfer" BPMs at the AP1 and AP3 BPM houses. For the AP2 BPM system the frequency of stale data reporting has increased recently and it lasts for longer periods of time.(This occurs when the OAC cannot communicate with the house's Master BPM board). The wireless communication seems to be contributing to this. a) The Controls/Networking people will continue trying to identify the reason of the trips. b) The Controls/Networking people and the Pbar people will try to come up with a wireless solution. 2) For the MI FW system the Vertical 2MHz Comet Digitizer will have to be replaced soon with a 5MHz one. Appropriate voltages need also to be set to eliminate saturation. 3) SBD: a) There are a few issues in MI SBD (NAN values returned in some cases, a bug in dynamic gain adjustment code, etc) where ivestigation will continue until the reasons are betetr understood. b) Randy plans to increase very soon the delay from 1 sec to 3 sec for SBDxxx devices within "SDA Edit". This will address the issue of occasional stale data for those devices. c) There are occasional problems with TeV SBD related with TCPort problems. In those cases the connection goes away and the data become stale. Some solutions are being considered one of them being to set an alarm through a Tevatron OAC. 4) Synclite: a) Disk problems are being followed upon b) The plan is to address Occasional TCPort problems in this system in the same way as for 3c). 5) The MI BLM system is almost completely commissioned. A plan is being now developed to commission the Tevatron BLM system. 6) The Tevatron people do not seem to need the old BPM Viewer than became out of date when the BPMs were upgraded to be revived. 7) The MI people are happy with the turn by turn data implemented in SDA and they have all the tools they need to look at them at this point. There is no need therefore to commission an additional MI BPM Viewer. 8) The transfer line BPMs for P1/P2/AP-1/AP-3 are now in SDA. They are there as structure devices that I39 can read. The pbar transfer team, please have a look and let us know if the implementation is satisfactory.
