Minutes of the Tevatron Dept Meeting - April 11, 2008 http://indico.fnal.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=1713 * Weekly Operations Summary (Dan Bollinger) - The Tevatron delivered 28.3 pb^-1 to the experiments this week over 4 stores with initial luminosities between 122 and 278 ub^-1/s. Store 6028 ended in a lightning-induced abort as the first thunderstorm of spring rolled through; another lightning strike soon afterward resulted in quenches at B1 and D1. It took over 12 hours to identify and replace the > 12 damaged components in various service builidings. Shot 6035 was lost due to a multi-house quench late in the low-beta squeeze. We believe very high losses in B1 caused by a large vertical angle bump introduced during an orbit smooth caused the initial B1 quench. The B11 vertical separator sparked at nearly the same time (possibly induced by the high losses?), causing an orbit distortion that prevented the beams from being aborted cleanly when the kickers fired; the miskicked beam then caused the remaining (later) quenches. (Note the collimators were not inserted yet, so that allowed the losses to spread out around the ring.) The D11 horz separator sparked near the end of store 6023 with minimal impact. Items needing (not related to lightning) maintenance/replacement: D17 turbo cart, VD37 regulator, A1 UPS, B19-2 Kautzky valve (stuck open after quench), several wet engines. The complex is down right now due to replacement and pumpdown of the Booster extraction septum and a problem with the Pelletron (for Recycler electron cooling) high voltage regulation - it may be a couple of days until we see beam again. * Nonlinear Optics Measurements with AC Dipole (Ryoichi Miyamoto) - postponed * Optimizing Delivered Luminosity (Alex Valishev) - Based on the recent performance of the Tevatron and pbar stacking/stashing, Alex's model shows we could increase weekly delivered luminosity by ~10% by running stores ~24 hrs to allow Recycler pbar stashes to exceed 400 E10. * Plan for Next Week - Once the Booster and Pelletron are fixed, deliver luminosity! - Proton only on helix on the ramp to fix orbits ,tunes etc... (tev group) - AC dipole/Pinger measurements at 150 GeV (Ryoichi) - Chromaticity tracker studies, proton only (Tan) - HEP tune mult calibration. 1 to 2 hrs EOS (Moore) - P1 line matching, proton only (Valishev) - Pinger Studies. 2 hours of proton only at 980GeV. (Hanna, Bollinger) - Continued BOS TEL-2 parasictic studies. (Let Crew chief know) (Seva)
