Minutes from the April 25, 2008 Tevatron Dept Meeting * There was no news to report. This weeks meeting was small as attendance was reduced by furloughs and the LARP meeting in New York: * Dan Bollinger reported on the weekly operation. There were 9 stores that produced Luminosity, and one that failed just before HEP was to begin. Luminosities ranged from 126 to 245. Operations were a bit rocky as we tried to establish acceptable orbits that did not cause losses through CDF. Intensity requests were kept low as we established stores with reduced losses in the Q3 magnet on the B1 side of CDF. There have been 8 quenches in the Tevatron since the lightning strike that ended store 6028. * Jerry Annala summarized the struggles with the orbits through CDF since store 6028. Problems began when orbit corrections were done using BPMs that were not functioning. The source of the problem was collecting TBT data on the ramp during the same cycle that orbit corrections were being made. The TBT collection caused about 1/2 the BPMs to get 1 profile frame behind. Corrections were done on orbit profile data that came from mixed slots. After this was realized, the orbits were returned to conditions that were close to nominal. Two stores later, the losses increased in the Q3 magnet on the B1 side of CDF. An aperture problem was suspected and scans were done at 150 GeV. The aperture was reduced from the last measurements made in 2007. Individual squeeze slots were adjusted to lower and move the beam to the inside until losses returned to acceptable levels. During the time period where we were optimizing orbits, two other unrelated quenches of the B0Q3 circuit occurred complicating the process of diagnosing and remediation of the problems. * Plan for Next Week - Many normal study participants were absent this week, but have study requests on the book. -Continue to optimize orbit and determine if additional work is needed to diagnose the apparent change in aperture at CDF. -AC dipole measurements -Chromaticity Tracker -Tune mult calibrations
