Minutes of the Tevatron Dept Meeting - Sep 5 2008 http://indico.fnal.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=2025 * Weekly Operations Summary (Dean Still) - The Tevatron delivered 59.9 pb^-1 to CDF and D0 over the past 7 days. There have been 9 HEP stores with initial luminosities between 224 and 300 ub^-1/s. Only 1 store was lost unintentionally - store 6393 ended in a B0 low-beta quench when the B0Q6 power supply tripped off. This failure mode has been happening infrequently for a couple of years; EE Support disabled an unused status bit in the latest attempt to solve the problem. There was another no-beam B0Q3 quench when ramping after recovery from the 6393 quench; experts are investigating if the heater firing unit tests are exacerbating the problem. The MDAT beam intensity broadcast for the F49 collimator was not working for ~4 stores. The E4 BPMs had a front-end problem requiring a reboot to fix. The 150 GeV proton lifetime problem improved after making an orbit bump to move away from the aperture at C49. CDF has been receiving integrated dose alarms during the squeeze; we are implementing several orbit bumps to try to reduce the loss spikes. There is still evidence of an occasional timing problem with the pbar injection kicker. * Measuring Longitudinal Damping Time (Fedor Emanov) - Fedor and Tan looked at the longitudinal damping of a single coalesced proton bunch at 150 GeV. Using Fedor's fast oscilloscope system, the synchrotron frequency peaks were obvious. The longitudinal damper works on the order of ~15 sec. Surprisingly, it damps quadrupole mode in addition to the dipole mode. Next they will make observations when anti-damping. * Plan for Next Week - Deliver quality luminosity. - Longitudinal damping measurements (Tan, Fedor - proton-only or shot-setup) - Bumper magnet as abort gap cleaner (Bruce, Jim - proton-only) - Multi-bunch proton injection (Tev and MI personnel - proton-only) - Crystal collimator check-out (Dean, proton-only or end-of-store) - Chromaticity Tracker (Tan, proton-only)
