Abstract:
Measurements of the linac filament current as a function of the line voltage are presented. Then, the peak voltage applied to the 7835 as a function of filament current is shown. Next, the 7835 tube lifetimes as a function of delivery date, for FNAL and for BNL tubes, is shown. Finally, a tabular comparison of the differences among the three Linacs at FNAL, BNL and LANL is shown. Conclusions: (1) FNAL has had significantly more tubes delivered since 2000 than BNL and has, therefore, had a better chance to see how poorly constructed these new tubes are. (2) The filament lifetime of a 7835 (which is the dominant failure mode here) seems to be most strongly correlated with the peak power (with beam) that the tube is required to provide.
