When designing a support stand for any component that is not positively trapped, a tipping analysis must be performed to determine how easy it is to tip over. For a 4 point stand with simple geometry, this calculation will be trivial. For a 3 point stand, more work is necessary, as 3 dimensional cross vectors will be involved. This paper describes the process to determine the minimum tipping force for a 3 point stand and the accompanying Excel spreadsheet automates these calculations to speed the process up.
