Abstract:
The PIP-III linac produces 8 GeV H- beam for injection into the Recycler or Main Injector (MI). Beam losses throughout the system must remain low to ensure high intensity in the MI cycle and to manage radiation effects to acceptable levels, including enabling practical maintenance of the facility. Beam loss mechanisms in the system include magnetic stripping, blackbody radiation, intrabeam stripping, beam gas scattering, and injection related losses. Injection related losses due to the multiturn injection and painting scenario with multiple beam-foil interactions are a particulary significant concern.
