Abstract:
The Recycler Ring was impacted by an electron cloud instability believed to be exacerbated by trapping and amplification of the electron cloud in the gradient dipoles. The Booster also has gradient dipoles and this is a preliminary study to investigate whether the ecloud effect can be responsible for observed ramp-independent charge-dependent emittance growth. If electron cloud is being trapped in the gradient dipoles, the effect will be responsive to changes in beam structure. We create differences in beam structure by deliberately misaligning the laser notcher and notch kicker.
