Abstract:
The Integrable Optics Test Accelerator (IOTA) is a research storage ring located at the Fermilab Accelerator Science and Technology facility. Its mission is the study of novel beam manipulation techniques, key of which is integrable optics - a method to suppress collective instabilities and increase beam intensities. IOTA has recently completed its second scientific run, incorporating many hardware and instrumentation improvements. This talk will outline the IOTA integrable optics research program, and discuss recent results for two experiments - the quasi-integrable Henon-Heiles octupole system and the fully integrable Danilov-Nagaitsev system. We will present the comparison with simulation benchmarks and analyze the impact of various operational limitations and perturbations. Related work in software tooling, machine learning, and lattice optimization will also be shown.
