Notes from Main Injector/Recycler Group Meeting Wednesday, 27 November 2002 Bruce C. Brown Announcements: Shekhar is away for an extended period. Stan Pruss is Acting Department Head. John Marriner is coordinating Recycler Ring Activities A brief discussion of Abstracts for PAC03. Discussion of Recycler Ring issues: Martin Hu -- RR Momentum Aperture Measurements Plots were presented showing the frequency spectrum from RR beam which had had the momentum blown up by using a kicker. Sharp edges were interpreted as the limits of the acceptance. The frequency range of the beam was interpreted to show an admittance of 0.45% between the steep edges. Data from 7/10/02 was displayed for which the logbook comment was that the acceptance was 1% but the analysis by Martin indicated 0.54% acceptance. Other measurements done by changing the RF frequency and then kicking the beam or measurements with bunched beam giving acceptance vs. frequency were also displayed. John Marriner summarized the situation with the comment that the results implied a momentum acceptance between 0.4 and 0.9% with the resolution of that difference remaining as a priority. Bill Foster will look for old measurements in the logbook. A study plan for momentum acceptance measurements will be developed. John Marriner -- RR Study Plans We will try to use available MI Group personnel who are not otherwise committed to man most of the shifts beginning on Monday. We will get organized and try to bring people in on Sunday of the Thanksgiving weekend. Those who volunteered will be called when a schedule has been established. Priority will be to further study the momentum acceptance of the RR followed by transverse acceptance measurements. The scraper measurements are limited by the fact that the noise source cannot be used since the detector plates are being used as the detector for the Beam Line Tuner. The RR HLRF improvements now show progress. Beam between barrier buckets is mostly flat with a small distortion near each barrier. Completion status of the HLRF work was not available at meeting time.
