From: Bob Webber [webber@fnal.gov] Sent: Sunday, January 22, 2006 5:28 PM To: 'PD-Meson-planning@fnal.gov' Subject: PD Meson Planning Meeting 1/20/06 minutes Minutes of Thursday, January 20, 2006 Proton Driver Meson Planning Meeting 1) Maurice reports that parts needed to raise the elevation of the Meson water header have been acquired. New supports have been welded to the building beams with approval of building manager. The pipe move needs to be coordinated with capture cavity operations and must be accomplished before Feb. 27 when the accelerator shutdown will consume Maurice's people. The existing water skid has a maximum flow capacity of ~120-130 gpm. This will satisfy needs for klystron and ion source/RFQ system, but additional capacity must be added to support much beyond that. 2) Steve showed an updated, partial waveguide layout based on the latest inputs from Al Moretti. This layout requires moving the klystron ~5 feet west of the previously identified location. Steve is gathering some missing waveguide component dimensions before proceeding farther. 3) It was suggested that Peter Prieto look at the proposed waveguide layout to see that it is compatible with his klystron/waveguide protection devices. 4) Leon reports that his crew has marked layout of major klystron/modulator components on MDB floor. 5) Chris reports that pulse transformer will ship next week. It will be delivered to MDB. Mike Andrews has been asked to meet with Chris to resolve oil containment questions. Chris says that the extent of conditioning required for the oil will depend whether he orders it in bulk from a tank truck or in multiple barrels. He has equipment to condition oil from barrels, but it will take ~ 4 hours/barrel. 6) Giorgio will provide Terry Anderson with ballpark surface areas of spoke cavities for vacuum system design purposes. Bill Foster suggests looking at vacuum system used in the ANL ATLAS layout. 7) Rob Reilly was introduced as the new Accelerator Division Mechanical Support Dept. engineering liason for Proton Driver. Jerry Leibfritz is moving on to a major role in ILC systems engineering activities. We thank Jerry for his valuable contributions and insights for Proton Driver and look forward to continuing to work with him on the ILC-compatible beta=1 section of the Proton Driver.
