From: Bob Webber [webber@fnal.gov] Sent: Thursday, March 30, 2006 3:43 PM To: 'PD-Meson-planning@fnal.gov' Subject: Minutes of 3/30 meeting Ding Sun gave a presentation on the successful testing of his 325 MHz RF hybrid circuit up to 170kW for 4 millisecond pulse with fully mismatched phase shifter ports. Testing stopped at that power level due to limitations of the phase shifter, not the hybrid. Dave Wildman states that 85 kW appears to be the upper power limit for the small diameter phase shifters. Ding's next step will be to incorporate circulators in the hybrid box. Al Moretti, Rob Reilly, Jim Steimel, Leon Beverly, and Steve Wesseln have been assigned to develop a complete plan and schedule by April 13 for the staging and assembly of the klystron, shielding, circulator, switch, loads, waveguide components, waveguide and component support structure, and protective 'roof'. A preliminary report is expected from Rob at next week's meeting. Tomorrow, March 31, the klystron xray shielding crate will be opened to understand its parameters and the constraints it places on the system assembly process. Leon will have a ~12 ft. cross section of the "Linac tunnel" assembled from shielding blocks in the north end of the detector building. This is for modeling purposes only, therefore interior dimensions are the important parameters, wall thickness does not matter. Jim Steimel gave a short synopsis of his visit to SNS. SNS may have beam absorber devices available that could serve a useful purpose for us in Meson. Bob Webber mailto:webber@fnal.gov phone (630)840-5415 pager (630)722-0085
