From: Bob Webber [webber@fnal.gov] Sent: Friday, January 19, 2007 2:47 PM To: 'PD-Meson-planning@fnal.gov' Subject: Minutes of January 11, 2007 HINS Meson meeting Minutes of January 11, 2007 HINS Meson meeting Planned agenda: Agenda: 1) Reports 2) Discussion of setting date of RF commissioning 3) Sounds like there may be naming convention discussions 4) AOB Reports Terry Anderson - Coax switch installation is proceeding. Parts now on hand for RT cavity support stand in test cave. Working with Al to determine if we have enough 3" coax elbows. Cage - door jam piece is expected this week; that should finish off the cage construction. Maurice Ball - Experienced more pump skid trips, cause may now be identified. Also experienced some air compressor problems. Chris Jensen - Modulator start-up maybe on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Estimates 2 wks of effort to commission modulator. Then ~3 days to upgrade output switch and re-confirm operation. Then all klystron interlocks need to be connected and tested. Al Moretti and Dave McDowell can begin some of this effort immediately; it need not wait for modulator commissioning to be completed. Chris needs Maurice to install flow restriction between klystron collector differential pressure monitor taps. Chris also requested modification of klystron ion pump controller to provide more suitable range for interlocking system to ion pump current. [Terry Anderson will replace ion pump power supply/controller provided by Toshiba with Fermilab controller that provides logarithmic current readout.] Klystron cathode heater supply is presently running into resistor. Chris wants this to continue for a while yet to make sure any PLC or other bugs are identified and fixed before connecting to klystron. Peter Prieto - Busy at A0. At Meson, there is cabling to be completed, arc detectors to be installed, and RF cabling/calibration to be completed. Relay racks need doors and ground cables. Also installation of RF leak detector antennae? Then Peter must commission his system, including verification of FPGA programs, phototube/arc detector tests, PLC verification, and complete trip level setting and verification of interlocks. Can this be accomplished before Feb. 13? Peter will be in Japan Feb. 13 - March 13. Al Moretti - Discussed methodology for 3" coax cutting and flanging. Al and Terry will agree on procedure. Al will start communication with Toshiba in preparation for them to concur with our preliminary klystron checkout (solenoids and cathode heater) plans and to witness RF commissioning ?~3rd week of March? if not earlier. Jim Steimel - Has connected RF cables to between monitoring couplers and relay racks. Has obtained software from ATF to "talk" to circulator bias supply. Question of circulator water interlock was discussed; still needs final resolution. Jim will be gone to accelerator school until Jan. 29. Dave Wildman - Reminded Giorgio that $70K req. for VFM circulators was still stuck in TD. Bruce Hanna - Presented his latest design idea, helical aluminum tube, for 2.5 MeV beam absorber. Chuck Schmidt - Reported that he has proposal for ion source area layout. Will discuss with Henryk and Doug before presenting to wider audience. Naming convention discussion - Decided that klystron(#) and modulator(#) would each reside at SYSTEM level in the naming convention. Latest naming document in beams docdb #2569.
