Minutes of the 23 March 2007 Tevatron Dept Meeting https://indico.fnal.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=703 * News (Ron) - The 2006 shutdown will begin on Aug 6 and last > 8 weeks; the length will be decided in ~1 month. The AD injury rate is currently above the FY07 goals; just a reminder to work safely - plan your work with safe practices in mind. The DOE Review of Tevatron Operations will be held on March 27-28. * Operations Summary (Xiaolong Zhang) - Over 38 pb^-1 have been delivered to the experiments since last Friday. There have been 6 stores with initial luminosities between 127 and 260 ub^-1/s; once again, all store terminations were intentional. Three of the stores suffered from poor proton lifetime after initiating collisions; the proton tunes landed a bit high, causing emittance blow-up and high proton losses that stopped collimators prematurely. After implementing appropriate tune changes for the available pbar intensities, proton losses are under control again. In store 5292, one pbar transfer was lost in the Recycler when the extraction kicker misfired. Also in that store, the Tevatron pbar injection closure program made incorrect changes to the trim dipole settings based on errors when reading the initial trim currents; for all but the first pbar injection, there were very large steering errors that caused the injected pbars to have emittances well over 20 pi compared to the typical 5-6 pi. The CDF IP vertical position and angle were adjusted during store 5293; more iterations are needed to get to their desired values. The B23 roughing pump is failing; an access will be needed to repair/replace. There were 2 sets of proton-only studies for commissioning the new sextupoles; the next step is to add needed orbit bumps early in ramp and do a full tune-up of the ramp and squeeze. The new digital tune meter (and tickler) has been used a couple of times during HEP stores with no problems. Loss spikes @ D0 are large again during the squeeze - some tune-up may be needed there. * Plan/Requests for Next Week - Deliver luminosity to CDF and D0. - New sextupole studies (Alex et al., > 2 hrs proton-only) - Tune-up LBSEQ 15-19? (1-2 hr proton-only) - Digital tune meter use (Seva, occasionally during HEP) - Adjust CDF IP (Ron, near end of HEP store) - P1 line matching (Andreas, proton-only/shot-setup) - Test E48 bumper as abort gap cleaner (Jim, Elmie, proton-only) - AC Dipole @ low-beta (Ryoichi, proton-only) - Chromaticity Tracker (Tan, proton-only) - ...
