Minutes/Action items of "Instrumentation-Systems-SDA" monthly meeting November 12, 2008 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- D. Capista, M. Convery, C. Gattuso, A. Jansson, S. Lackey, C. McClure, T. Meyer, V. Papadimitriou, D. Slimmer, M.J.Yang, J. Zagel We discussed the following: -------------------------- 1) Status of Flying Wire system (RR, MI and TeV) 2) MI IPM status 3) MI IPM Acnet Interface 4) TeV IPM status 5) RFT board status ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Conclusions-Action Items: 1) As of November 12, the RR, MI and Tev Flying wire signals/profiles look reasonable. We still have two pending issues with the FW systems, one in TeV and the other in MI. a) We still need to understand better the Tevatron bunch by bunch FW emittance evolution during the flattop and squeeze cases. We are now flying the wires two additional times during flattop (once before pbar jacking and once after pbar jacking) with the goal to compare clockwise to clockwise flights. We continue flying the wires in the beginning of the case flattop and in the end of the case squeeze. Tom is trying to analyze this data from the dataloggers. b) We have an issue as well with MI Flying Wires during multibatch proton injection. for one of the two passes in the second batch (bad data or no data). Jim Zagel will continue investigating a possible timing issue there. 2) Dave has implemented Valeri's decaying sinusoidal fit to MI IPM data. The code is now running in the front end and filling 6 ACNET devices. The information reported is: data offset, amplitude, deay rate, frequency and phase, including the uncertainties of the above parameters and two chisquares. The next step is for Valeri to look at this data (through a front end display or something similar) and validate them. Jim showed as well the IPM specs for Tev injections and pbar transfers to Recycler. 3) Tom has generated an IPM Acnet Interface page for the Main Injector which displays the front-end data on a console. (charge vs turn, sigma vs turn, position vs turn, etc.) Single turn display still has to be implemented. Dave Capista will try to use this page and provide feedback. Tom will continue to update the page as per feedback from Dave and Jim. 4) New firmware arrived in late September for the horizontal Tevatron IPM to address syncronization issues. This firmware was tested succesfully in the test stand but validation with the real system was delayed due to faulty hardware. After addressing the harware issues the new firmware was installed in the real system and now the sync error rate is ~ a few per day (it was much higher before). An observation with the new firmware is that the beam related background both for protons and pbars is fluctuating a lot while it was stable before (this could be due to a time jitter). The signal is also smaller than with old firmware which makes it difficult to see pbars with the horizontal system. This issue is still under investigation. The vertical firmware will be likely updated soon. Tom will continue to update the page as per feedback from Dave and Jim. 5) The circuit board layout of the RFT board is almost finished and the board manufacturer has the purchase order in hand. The design files are to be sent to the manufacturer on the 21st of November. We expect delivery of 10 boards within a couple of weeks from receipt of the design files. Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 7, 2008. In the mean time we will try to validate what needs validation before that time.
