Minutes of the March 19 Tevatron Dept Meeting http://indico.fnal.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=3211 * Weekly Operations Summary (CY Tan) - The Tevatron delivered 59.5 pb^-1 to the experiments over the past 7 days. There have been 9 HEP stores with initial luminosities between 246 and another new record 376 ub^-1/s. Store 7670 aborted after only 2.5 hrs due to a power glitch at the F4 service building. Record store 7685 aborted after 19.7 hours when another power glitch on Feeder 46 took out half of the cryogenic compressors. The record initial luminosity was helped by very little transverse pbar growth and no longitudinal blow-up until after HEP was already declared. The pbar bunch length jumps are still occurring on nearly every store. Enlarging the separation helix early in the squeeze has helped reduce proton losses. The horz separation helix for collisions was increased 5% and that seems to have helped pbars. TRF1 tripped off during 2 consecutives stores; no trips since replacing the modulator. We are investigating coupling early on the ramp. Pbar tune measurements during HEP were made by exciting the pbars with the PBJ noise source. * Crystal Collimator Studies (Dean Still) - After some confusion about the crystal bend orientation, there was clear observation of channeled and volume-reflected beam using the (vertical) multi-strip crystal during end-of-store studies. Analysis is ongoing, but the width of the volume-reflected beam seems is about 2 times larger than expected. * Optimizing Tevatron Luminosity (Alex Valishev) - As part of an exercise for future Tevatron running, Alex revisited how we can increase luminosity. The most straightforward way is to increase proton intensity, assuming the emittances don't increase much - requires coalescing effort from Main Injector. Smaller beta* limited by physical aperture in triplets, losing battle with hour-glass factor. Of course, more pbars faster would help, too, but many folks already work on that all the time. Alex proposed working on increasing separation at nearest parasitic crossings (via optics adjustments) and trying higher-intensity proton bunches as a study with a smaller stash store. * Next Week's Plan (All) - Integrate luminosity. - Test BPM code for pbar TBT (controls, instrumentation during shot-setup) - Measure lattice at flattop, LBSEQ 14 (Alex, proton-only) - Aperture scans at B0, D0 (Bruce, proton-only) - 150 GeV Chromaticity (Tan, proton-only) - Pbar-only store (many folks)
